Weekend Drafts

Draft Weekend Questions.

OK. Put down the mag. Stop mock drafting. Stop trying to figure everything out. You need to ask yourself, how do you feel about certain players. This is your fantasy, remember, so the people you take into battle with you should be the soldiers you want carrying the pride of your team throughout the year. Relax. Visualize.

Do you really think Ronnie Brown is a top tier RB? Did Rex Grossman really figure it all out? Will Mo Jones Drew lose touches to Greg Jones? Will Eli be more than Eli can be?

Everyone who writes fantasy columns, EVERYONE, is just like you. They spend sleepless nights debating which WR to start and wonder when to pull a trigger on a trade.

Some of us, this is me I'm talking about, call newspaper weathermen for reports on field conditions to get the inside scoop to bring to my readers.

What you need to do now is relax and go with your instinct.

However, if those instincts aren't quite settled in, and you need a little help, feel free to ask a question on what you're thinking and I'll try to work it out for you. I'm online doing fantasy prep pretty much all the time seeing as how I'm trying not to work for other Publications and start my own community here with passionate, insane people such as yourselves who have committed themselves to a team that only exists for you and about 9 – 11 other people.

Bring the questions, I'm ready. Also, as soon as the injury reports clear, start 'em and sit 'ems will be available well before Thursday's game. All ansers will be posted on this blog.

Fantasy becomes real when you believe in the unreal.

Selvin Young - Starting Denver RB week 1

If you've been paying attention to the blog, you noticed yesterday, before the game, that I had Selvin Young, the undrafted rookie out of Texas, as an underground Sleeper pick.

Today, according the Denver Post, Young has been named the team's back-up running back, passing Mike Bell and others.

In addition, it's likely he will start the season opener if Henry can't go - and that looks like it's going to happen.

Like I said before, this is the place to come for the fantasy news you won't see in the mags or websites.

Pick him up before it's too late, and if you have Travis Henry, it is Young, not Bell that should be your handcuff.

Vince Young - You Better Believe

The pre season is done but there's much work to be done.

I understand that many of you are still mock drafting, collapsing the ESPN window when your boss walks by and looks over your shoulder, but you can still work.

Vince Young. Take him to the bank. You can probably wait till the mid to late rounds after you have your 2 RBS and 2 WRs to take a QB. You might even be able to add the Bears Defense for a little extra soup with your meal. But know this: Vince Young is not just a great athlete, he's an outstanding QB and a leader. He makes those around him better.

The knock on him this year is that he doesn't have th play makers around him to produce great stats, but did he at Texas? No. Yet he still lead those amazing drives that gave the Longhorns their national championship.

Young has the Jodard type of leadership charisma where his team will follow him into battle and fight till the death because they know they have a chance to come out with a victory. He is Lawrence of Arabia with a swagger to him.

While others will spend early round picks on the high tier of RBs:

Manning
Palmer
Bulger
McNabb

ETC, the smart fantasy owner will sit back and grab Young. He's get you a notch or two in the box score each week, which, if you have solid receivers and RBs, is all you need. Come fantasy play off time, QBs don't win you games. All they need to do is put up points to compliment your Running Back team.

You can see Young going through his progressions as he looks at the field. He is not like Mike Vick, but more like a more athletic Randell Cunningham, which is a dangerous though.

Don't believe the hype with most of these hacks saying negative thoughts against Young. They don't see the light. Next year, he'll be below Manning and Palmer. The Titans are not a loosing organization. Jeff Fisher makes players better and his system produces points. Even Mr.l White is starting to come around.

Go to NFL. com and watch the highlights from last night's game. Sure, it was pre- season, but look at the presence that Young has on the field. He is a commander and one that you should be proud to have on your squad.

Fantasy Football Sleepers

By Now, most of you have already picked out what horses you're going to ride to the finish line this year. There's no need to go over that Frank Gore's hand is an issue, Rudi Johnson will go for 13 TDs and 1300 yards, Steve Jackson is a stud, LT is Money or that Joe Adai will be great if he can...Well, you know all of that. Every Fantasy Mag and website has that outline. What I bring to you now is a list of waiver wire (if you've drafted and need to fill) or late round (if you're draft is on the way).

Here we go.

1. Patrick Crayton (WR Dallas) This is already shaping up to be the year that Terry Glenn says goodbye to the fantasy world.
Now if you're a Tony Romo Fan, and we know you're out there, you have to believe that Crayton is worth a spot on your
squad. Crayton has been in the league for a few years now and is hungry enough to take the opportunity presented to
him. Word is that he will start the season as the Cowboys # 2 receiver, so that's worth at least 4-5 TDs and some receiving
yards. Championship are won by mere points, so getting a solid receiver like this for pretty much nothing will make you
happy when, come week 3 when he busts out because T.O. draws all the double coverage and he's one on one with a #2
DB.

2. T.J. Duckett (RB Detroit) Kevin Jones is likely going on the PUP list. Tatum Bell is Tatum Bell. That leaves Duckett as the
Primary Ball carrier for Detroit on the goal line. If you believe in Mr. Martz and his offense, Duckett has the experience
and will to be your #4 RB. He will be given chances and should score. Don't believe me? Well, he's got the Raiders week
#1, so can test my theory here and see if you should have moved to pick him up earlier. Instead of taking Chris Henry
(TEN) or throwing a pick away on Anthony Thomas, why not take a chance on T.J. who has produced every year of his
football career, and that's counting a few scores down the stretch last year for Washington.

3. Brandon Marshall (WR Denver) Receivers thin out quickly, so be sure to take a good look in Denver before you start
scratching the bottom of the barell. Rod Smith is hurting. Brandon Stokely is a slot receiver and Javon Walker will draw
double coverages. That leaves Marshall as the man to step up and rack up receiving yards and TD grabs when opposing
coaches fail to game plan for him.

4. Selvin Young (RB Denver) Are you ready? Are you listening to this? Here is the breakout, come from nowhere runner of
the year. Cedric Cobbs has been released, Travis Henry won't survive a year in Denver, Mike Bell is already dinged up.
Cecil Sapp is a Goal Line back, not a runner. Young made the team as an undrafted free agent from Texas. Big Mike
likes to look smart and he'll give this kid a chance - just wait and see. You won't have to draft him - he'll be on the
free agent list or waiver wire. Worth the risk. Try it. You'll like it.

5. Ahmad Green (RB Houston) Is he really on this list? Indeed. When Green played last year, he did OK. Not stud RB or even
#3 RB OK, but in Houston, he should play well enough in the first half of the season to at least have some trade value for
the suckers in your league (They all have at least 2). Houston's problem was never really scorring TDs on the ground,
it looks like Schaub is going to have a better feel for things that Carr did. If Green is sitting around towards the end, put
him in there as a stop gap.

That's it for today. Watch these week 4 preseason games to fill out your roster. Remember, building a fantasy team means tht you need to build to the very end. The victories come with role players. Take a look at all # 3 RBs and WRs very carefully. If they're hungry, they will get you your food as well.

See you on Friday.

I wanted to take a moment to welcome all of my readers from other sites and new ones to Stal's world of Fantasy Football reporting. Like many of you, I have done my craft for others and have now decided to branch off on my own. I will answer all emails sent to me in regards to starting and sitting players as well as drafting questions.

Remember, this is your fantasy. Don't let anyone tell you how to feel. The most you should do is look in the direction they're pointing.

Fantasy Becomes Real when you believe in the unreal.
